Brasher Falls — Mrs. Mabel C. Gardner, 73, died on Tuesday (7/13/1971) at Massena Memorial Hospital.

She was born in St. Regis Falls on July 13, 1898, the daughter of Andrew and Louisa Christian Newtown. She attended St. Regis Falls-schools land married George W. Gardner of Stockholm in 1914. He died Aug. 13, 1966. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Brasher Falls.

Surviving are seven sons, James of Moira; Andrew of Richmond, VT; Edward of Puerto Rico; George Gardner of Morley, Patrick of Norfolk; Horace of Brasher Falls and Timothy of Massena; also six, daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Mary) Brisson of Yale, SD; Mrs. Robert (Gladys) Sayles of Lake Clear Junction; Mrs. George (Hazel) Hawker of Brasher Falls; Mrs. Nelson (Frances) Parker of Paul Smiths; Mrs. Donald (Leila) McDonald of Massena and Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Tyo of Potsdam. Also surviving is one brother, Harry Newton of Spencerport; three half-brothers, Bernard Newtown of Norfolk, and Glenford Newtown of Akron, OH; Lowell Newtown of Buffalo; sister, Mrs. Gladys LaPierre of Canton; a half-sister, Mrs. Regina Varney of Texas; 61 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Three children predeceased her, including Lawrence, and William Gardner and Mrs. Arnold (Roberta) Leggue.
