Charles enlisted in the United States Army on June 25, 1979 and received an honorable discharge on October 12, 1983.

Garmon of Fort Wayne; daughters, Chameka (Bradley) Garmon-Batiste of Atlanta, GA and Mia Bilotti-Garmon of Bellville, IL; loving and devoted companion, Thea Surles of Fort Wayne; father, Charles E. Garmon, Sr. of Lebanon, IL; brothers, Aaron E. (Tamiko) Mason of Flint, MI and Charles Rutherford of Fort Wayne; sisters, Helen Garmon of Fort Wayne, Anita Blake-Garmon of Atoka, TN, Tawanna Rucker of Lebanon, IL and Robin Rucker of Atlanta, GA; uncles, E.C.
