Robert E. Ribic, Sr., 80, of Harrisburg, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013. He was born in Steelton, PA. on March 14, 1933 to the late Mirko and Frances Ribic and attended St. Mary's Croation Church and School. Bob was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Parish and a Chancellor of the Knights of Columbus, Council 12811.
"Ribs" graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School, Class of 1951. At Catholic High, he played basketball, football and baseball. After high school, Bob joined the U.S. Army for two years and obtained the rank of corporal. Bob received his Masters of Education Degree from the Pennsylvania State University in 1963. He was employed by Susquehanna Township High School where he taught art for 36 years. Bob coached basketball, track and football at Susquehanna Township. His coaching accomplishments included winning the 1970 Capital Area Conference Basketball Championship and the 1986 State Track Championship. He was the Program/Recreation Director for Susquehanna Township for over 25 years. Ribs was an avid sports fan and loved Notre Dame and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed yard work, golfing, bowling, tennis and softball. Bob coached Strainings Softball Team and was a PIAA basketball official. Bob was happily married for 53 years and is survived by his loving wife, Jannette (Smith); sons, Robert, Jr. and wife. Lori, Christopher and his wife Amy; grandchildren, Robert III, Maria, Brianna and Christian and great granddaughter, Adelena and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stephen, Joseph, George, Victor and William and sisters, Frances and Barbara. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 12 PM at the Saint Catherine Labourne Parish, 4000 Derry Street, Harrisburg with Rev. Neil S. Sullivan as celebrant. There will be a Prayer Service hosted by the Knights of Columbus at 10:50 AM followed by visitation at 11 AM. Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine Laboure School or Bishop McDevitt High School. Arrangements by the David M.
