Rita was a homemaker, but also worked as a secretary in the law offices of Ralph Moses and Ed. Fanning in Hardin. She also worked as a secretary at St. Norbert's Catholic School in Hardin.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Meppen. She also was a supporter of Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, and St. Joseph's Quilting Club.
Rita died at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hardin at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 5 days. She was survived by 1 daughter and 1 son-in-law; 3 sons and 3 daughters-in-law; 5 grandchildren; 5 brothers and 5 sisters-in-law; 1 sister, a nun in Alton, Illinois; and 4 sisters-in-law.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; 1 sister, Ethel Lehr; and 4 brothers, Paul, Aloys, Ed and Brother Norbert Friedel.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on 01 Apr 2013 at Hanks-Gress Funeral Home in Brussels. A prayer service took place at 4 p.m. that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Meppen. Rita was buried next to her husband, Alfred, who passed away in 1996.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to St. Mary's Catholic School in Brussels, St. Norbert's Catholic School in Hardin or to St. Joseph's Cemetery.
