Mrs. Meier, nee Jipp, was born on March 11, 1837, in Ploen Schleswig Holstein Germany. She was married to Joechin Meier in Germany and to this union were born five sons and two daughters. In 1892 they came to America and settled in Scott county, Iowa, and in 1895 they came to O'Brien county and later bought a little home in Hartley.
The deceased became a member of the Lutheran church many years ago. She lived her Christian life in her quiet way so that shortly before her death she gave evidence of her faith in Christ. She died at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 1 day.
She leaves to mourn her death her aged husband, three sons and two daughters, one brother here and two sons in Germany. There are in all thirty-two grandchildren besides her many friends.
"Precious mother, she has left us, Left us, yes, forever more; But we hope to meet her, On that bright and happy shore." It is said that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world, which is well applied to the word "mother."
The funeral services were held at the West Evangelical church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and was very largely attended. The service was conducted by Rev. Mether. Interment was made in the Hartley cemetery. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Meier of Worthington, Minn., and Mr. Jipp, of Davenport.
