Charles's father Christian Wacker was a Saloonkeeper in Collinsville, Illinois. In the summer of Charles's sixteenth year, his father Christian died. He became the "man of the house," and had to help his widowed mother manage the family and help with his seven younger brothers and sisters. Charles's mother Katherine remarried in August of 1884 to a John Miller. The family moved across the river to St. Louis, Missouri. This respite from head of the family was short lived, as Charles's step-father John Miller died from a tragic accident after baby sister Emma was born in 1887.
To help support the family, Charles found work as a compounder in a distillery in St. Louis, Missouri. Charles Wacker never married. He lived with his widowed mother and younger siblings in St. Louis.
Charles Wacker died of cirrhosis of the liver on September 2, 1902 at the home of his mother on 2402 Menard Street in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri. He was 37 years old. He was buried in St. Marcus Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri on September 4, 1902.
