Marie Josephine Nagel, 93, Atchison, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at her son's home in Atchison.

Marie was born July 2, 1919, at the home of her parents in Maydale, in Lyon County, approximately five miles southeast of Olpe. Marie, the daughter of Bernard (Barney) J. Scheve and Mary Margaret (Dohm) Scheve. She lost her mother on April 26, 1922, at the age of two. Marie attended elementary school on the first floor of Saint Mary's Church in Maydale, and graduated from the eighth grade in Olpe, on May 31, 1933.

She and Marvin Conrad Nagel were united in marriage on Saturday, May 5, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia.

Marie was employed with the Broadview Hotel in Emporia, before marriage. From 1963 until 1976, she and her husband owned and operated the A & W Drive-In, Atchison. Later years she was employed by American Legion Post No.6 from 1976 until 1986.

Marie was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Atchison. She enjoyed the quilting circle, visiting shut-ins, taking long walks and liked to plant a vegetable garden every year. Later years, she enjoyed her family, grandchildren and friends.

Survivors include daughter Mary Ann Nagel, Atchison, son Kenneth (Anne) Nagel, Atchison, one sister Lucille M. Slattery, Mayetta, one sister-in-law, Rose Mary (Hohne) Scheve Senn, Emporia, three grandchildren, Jon, Mark and Faith Nagel, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, John M. Scheve, Peter B. Scheve and Frederick J. Scheve, two sisters, Marcella E. Kern and Emma M. Senn.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, at Sacred Heart Church,1439 Kansas Avenue, Atchison, with Fr. Gerard Senecal, OSB, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Atchison.
