Edward, as he was apparently known, was married to Lillie Wagner on February 3 1909 at St. John's "Kimmel's" Lutheran and Reformed Church by the Rev. A. H. Klick. He was listed as "Farmer" on the marriage license.
Edward and Lillie had nine children together and spoke Pennsylvania Dutch at home. Their children included the following: Elsie (1909-1936), Thomas (1912-1971), Roy (1914-1975), Grace (1916-1938), Anna (1920-1995), Fred (1922-1998), Darwin (1924-1972), Clyde (1926-2020), and Marlin (1928-2009). Lillie had a miscarriage between Grace and Anna, and died in 1932 in the midst of her eleventh pregnancy.
His World War I Draft card says that he was a mine laborer for the Buck Run Coal Co. It also gives his description as medium height and build with brown hair and blue eyes.
He was married to Jennie (Derr) Geist, a widow, on July 19, 1936 by C. Laudenslager, J.P. His occupation was listed as "Farmer" on the license.
His death certificate gives his cause of death as chronic myocarditis, advanced anthracasis, secondary infection, bronchial pneumonia. He was under treatment from August 1939 to Jan 24 1940, and this disease was related to his occupation, which was listed as miner.
Excerpts from his obituaries:
