Emily's mother, Henrietta, was born in Germany in May of 1817. An elderly widow, she lived with the Laatsch family from the late 1800's until her death in 1910.
Emily's husband, John, died about 1915 when he was about 57-years-old.
A decade after John's death, Emily moved from Altamont in Effingham County, Illinois to Wood River, Madison County, Illinois around 1923. She lived there with a daughter, Delia Brockman, and her family for 20 years.
While living in Wood River, Emily attended St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society until complications of old age made getting around difficult in 1942.
Emily lived with Delia until mid-March of 1943. At that time, she moved in with her son, Edwin Laatsch, Sr., and his wife in nearby Roxana, Illinois.
On 06 Apr 1943, Emily broke her hip in a fall. She was hospitalized at Alton Memorial Hospital where she died 11 days later at the age of 80.
She was survived by 1 daughter, Delia Brockman of Wood River; 2 sons, Edwin Laatsch, Sr. of Roxana, and Louis F. Laatsch of Quincy, Illinois; 9 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, Emily was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Emma von Renner.
Visitation was held after 6 p.m. at Streeper Funeral Home in Wood River, Illinois on 17 Apr 1943. Funeral services were conducted there at 10:30 a.m. on the morning of 19 Apr 1943. Following services, the body was returned to Emily's hometown of Altamont for burial at Union Cemetery.
