Edmund was the son of Lewis and Caroline (Pohinoe) Roehr and the husband of Matilda Gast.
BIOGRAPHY-
Edmund Frederick Roehr was born to Lewis and Caroline Roehr on August 12, 1870. Lewis and Caroline, with two daughters (Amelia and Minnie) and a son (Alvin G.) had arrived in America from Germany in July 1870. Edmund was born a month later while the family was living in Sauk County Wisconsin. When he was two years old the family moved to West Cedar Township in Mitchell County Iowa. The Roehr's bought a farm in West Cedar Township in 1873. Edmund grew to manhood helping his father and brother Alvin G. on the farm.
On November 29, 1892, Edmund married Matilda Gast. She was the daughter of nearby farmers. Edmund and his wife lived on the Roehr farm. His older brother, Alvin G. had married Katharine Erbe on May 28, 1891 and they lived in Meroa. Alvin was pursuing a career as a buttermaker at the creamery in Meroa. Alvin and Edmund's father Lewis had been attacked by a wild boar when he was a young man in Germany which resulted in a stiff right leg, thus Edmund was needed on the farm to help his father.
Less than a year after Edmund married Matilda, Edmund died at the age of 23 (July 14, 1893). He is buried in the old cemetery two miles south of Meroa. When his wife passed away she was buried next to him. In this old cemetery there are only the graves and gravestones of Edmund and his wife, Edmund's parents, Lewis and Caroline, and Edmund's sister, Amelia Roehr Lange. On the west side of the cemetery there are about five or six other graves and gravestones.
