Funeral services for James Riney, 85, of Slaton will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Grace Lutheran Church in Slaton with the Rev. Yvonne Kiebler officiating. Interment will be at Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

James passed from this life Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, in Dallas.

He was born June 29, 1920 in Slaton and graduated from Wilson High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific Theater and received the Purple Heart. James married Lorena Becker Sept. 20, 1945 in Clovis N.M. They lived and farmed in Spade, Floydada and Ropesville before moving to Slaton in 1956. Lorena preceded him in death June 25, 2003. James loved his family, church and farming. James served on the Grace Lutheran Church Council and as past president, the Slaton Co-op Gin as past vice president, and as director on the Growers Feed Board and Plains Co-op Oil Mill.

Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Hill and husband Brice of Dallas; three grandchildren, Heather of Dallas, Shelby of Chicago, and Lance Hill and wife Neiman of Dallas; and a great-granddaughter, Bryce MacKenzie of Dallas.
