William is reportedly buried at the Odd Fellows Cem in Bexar Co TX. F/G photo-volunteers searched for a stone in Aug 2017 -- found no marker for him, although remarked that there were a number of unreadable, broken, etc stones.

Called Thompson, 71, b 16 Apr 1827, Butler Co PA, s/o Hon Jacob MECHLING Jr, d at his home in San Antonio TX, where he had made his home abt the time of Civil War outbreak.

When a boy, known as "Thomps" MECHLING. He rec'd a military educ at West Point, became a Col in the regular army, later a civil engineer, going south becoming engaged as a railroad engineer in Mexico, Honduras, Peru & other So American States.

His brothers included Joseph B ov Butler PA, the late Simon S, father of present Col W T MECHLING, & Jefferson MECHLING, living in CA. Sisters included the late Mrs Archibald BLAKELEY of Pittsburg, & the late Mrs Lewis LORD of Meadville PA.

...1849 Dec, San Antonio TX, per Returns from Military Posts, Commissioned officers - Absent: WILLIAM T MECHLING, 2nd Lieut, 8th Inf, "B", joined by promotion as per letter recorded, Aug 17 1849; on duty w/3rd Inf at El Passo
...1856: per Hist of Butler Co PA article: When in 1856, Jacob MECHLING, Jr, occupied a place on the Republican ticket as a candidate for Associate Judge, his son (**Thompson MECHLING), then in the army, being a West Pointer & stationed in the South, wrote home a reproving letter, reminding his father that when he left home, "Charlie SULLIVAN and Clark MCPHERRON were the only Abolitionists in the county." Young MECHLING had little knowledge of the great change that had taken place in public sentiment. His father, with the rest of the ticket, was elected by a good majority..."
