Rosaline Johanna Hespen, daughter of John Oldigs and Margreta nee Luchen Oldigs, was born in Wardenburg, Germany, on December 17, 1901. She died at Hebron, Nebraska, on March 6, 1985.

She was baptized in a Lutheran Church in Germany, and confirmed in 1917 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Leigh, Nebraska. The past twenty years she had been active in the Oak Community Church, Oak, Nebraska, and a member of the Dorcas Circle. She received her education in Germany and Nebraska.

On March 1, 1924, she was united in marriage to Herman Hespen at Husher, Kansas. One son and seven daughters were born to this marriage. Together they lived in Platte, Nuckolls, and Thayer counties, living in Nora, Nebraska, 27 years before moving to Hebron three years ago.

Mrs. Hespen was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Survivors are her husband, Herman of Hebron; her son, Raymond J. Hespen, Custer, South Dakota; her seven daughters, Mrs. Herman (Velma) Fintel, Sutton, Nebraska; Mrs. Eugene (Lovetta) Weiss, Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Clarence (Wauhnetta) Gebers, Nora, Nebraska; Mrs. Conrad (Darlene) Wiger, Ulen, Minnesota; Mrs. Don (Rachel) Skeahan, Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Arnold (Loxie) Ehlers, Hebron, Nebraska; and Mrs. Michael (Ruth) Gray, Lincoln, Nebraska; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Elizabeth) Fricke, Rising City, Nebraska; Mrs. Herman (Emma) Oldigs, Fremont, Nebraska; and Mrs. George (Sophie) Fricke, Cold Water, Michigan; twenty-three grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 9, 1985, from the Christian Church in Hebron, Nebraska, with Reverend Henry Knotts officiating. Music was "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" sang by the congregation, "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" with Evelyn Pflanz, soloist, and Diane Miller, organist.

Casketbearers were her nine grandsons: Daniel Weiss, Dennis Gebers, John Hespen, Ivan Fintel, Phillip Hespen, Matthew Hespen, Douglas Weiss, Curtis Jordan, and Jeffrey Ehlers. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hebron, Nebraska. Adams-Tibbetts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
