Lois M. Beermann, 89, of Dakota City died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Karen Kaye officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Lois was born Aug. 15, 1916, to Harry and Marie (Swedburg) Lichliter, in David City, Neb. She was raised in David City. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1939, with a bachelor of science degree in home economics.

On July 16, 1939, she and Melvin R. Beermann were married at her home in rural David City. They moved to Pierce, Neb., where he was the county extension agent until he was called to military service in 1941. While in the U.S. Army, they moved several times including Paris, Texas, where their daughter, DelRae, was born. In 1945, they returned to Nebraska and in 1948, their son, Robert, was born. In 1953, they moved to Dakota City, where she resided the remainder of her life.

She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church for most of her life and taught Sunday School for 18 years. She served the Lutheran Church Women at Salem and held several state and national offices.

She was active throughout her life in county and state home extension service activities. In high school she received third place in the state 4-H style review and third place in the state 4-H essay contest. This allowed her to go to the 4-H National Club Congress in Chicago in 1932. She continued her work in 4-H for more than 30 years by helping to organize and lead 4-H clubs and assisting and judging many county fairs.

She was always interested in family and community history. She prepared pictorial genealogies for the Lichliter and Beermann families. She also served as secretary for Dakota County Historical Society for 30 years.

She is survived by a daughter, DelRae Beermann of Dakota City; a son and his wife, Robert and Christie Beermann of Abilene, Texas, and their daughter, Jessica Beermann of Atlanta, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Stuart and Ivan Lichliter; her husband, Melvin Beermann; her daughter's husband, Edward Bruns; and a nephew, Murray Lichliter.

Pallbearers will be Dave, Gary, Roger and Scott Beermann, Kim (Lichliter) Jay and Tandy Lichliter. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck and Sandy Beermann, Howard and Pat Beermann, Dian and Bob Boals, Jason and Diane Hirschbach, Ron and Earlene McClain and Wendel and Virgene Otte.
