Alex Pawlowski, 82, of S. River, former councilman, assessor
South River – Alex P. Pawlowski, a former Borough Council president and councilman, died Tuesday at Haverford Community Hospital, Havertown, Pa. He was 82. He was a lifelong borough resident. Mr. Pawlowski was a chemical operator at Hercules Inc. in the Parlin section of Sayreville for 44 years before retiring in 1970. He was a member of the 10 and 25- year clubs at Hercules. He served two terms on the council in the 1940s. He also served as borough tax assessor and on the South River Industrial Board. Mr. Pawlowski was a member of the Democratic municipal committee and the Middlesex County Department Party, and served on the Harbors and River Commission. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, South River, where he served for many years as starosta and assistant starosta. He was also a member of the Russian American Mutual Aid Society. His sister, Nadine Pawlowski, died in 1988. Surviving are his wife, Helen Pekarski Pawlowski; two sons, Alex P. Jr. of Waldwick and Nicholas A. of Havertown; two brothers, Peter of Milltown and Costy of Sayreville, and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave., South River, followed by an 11 a.m. service at Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, South River.
