William E. Tafel, 80, Sarasota, died May 15, 2006. He was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Ionia, Mich., and came to Sarasota 20 years ago from Williamston, Mich.

He retired as a specialist with General Motors and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Kirby Stewart American Legion Post 24, Bradenton, and Concordia Lutheran Church, LCMS, Sarasota.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lorraine G.; a son, William T. of Tampa; and a sister, Anita Timpe of Portage, Ind.

No visitation is planned. Services will be Thursday at Mansion Memorial Park Chapel of Peace. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Bradenton Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church LCMS, 2185 Wood St., Sarasota, FL 34237; or to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
