Anita, along with her two brothers was baptized on June 5, 1927, at the Presbyterian Church at Westside, Iowa, by Reverend James McSurvis. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 21, 1948, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Los Angeles, California, by Reverend Immanuel F. Hodde.

She attended county schools through the sixth grade and then attended school in Westside, graduating from Westside High School with the class of 1942. In the fall she attended AIB Business School at Des Moines, Iowa, and in 1943 worked for Bankers Life Company, leaving in 1945 to get married. At her mother's home on November 17, 1945, she was married to Harold Groen by Reverend Berner. On Thanksgiving Day they moved to Maywood, California, where they both found work.

On Mother's Day, May 11, 1947, a son named Steven was born. They moved back to Iowa and moved to Denison in 1950. Anita worked for Denison Propane Gas Co. as a bookkeeper for 13 years and a computer operator at South Crawford REC for 17 years, retiring in 1983.

They enjoyed everything together - church, Bible class, fishing, dancing, cards, golfing, hunting, winters in Arizona and California, and socializing with friends and relatives. Anita liked all kinds of music and her son's guitar playing. Mom was a loving, caring person and my best friend.
