Son of John Finley and husband of Sarah (Cooper) Finley and father of James Irvin, William Henry, Joseph, Mary Ann, Laura J., Amanda E, Sarah Ellen and Kate Finley. Some records (1880 and 1900 Census) state he was born in South Carolina and others say Alabama, I don't know which one is correct.

"'Jack' Finley donated the land for the Pauley Cemetery. It was named Pauley because the Pauley School was already there.

He was wounded at Vicksburg, SC during the Civil War. He was blind in his right eye due to an accident from a tree limb. He died of cancer of the left eye at about 66 years old.
