He was born April 4, 1847, on the Heitkamp homestead farm at Egypt, where he was reared. In 1872, he married Mary Huelskamp, who survives. In 1884, the couple settled on the farm they own just south of town on the Minster-Fort Loramie pike. No children were born to this union, but they were possessed of a good charitable heart and have reared several children.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Agnes Ashman of Cassella. He was a member of the St. Augustine Orphan Society. Internment will be in the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.
