Henry Paasch - Born May 10, 1852 at Kleinwittensee, Schleswig, Germany. Died Thursday, March 3, 1904, aged fifty-one years, nine months and twenty-two days. The deceased was one of the prominent farmers of Monroe township where he settled in 1873 upon the farm which has been his home for the past thirty years.
At the age of twenty he came from his old country home and settled in Iowa. His first location being in Benton county where he remained but one year and then came on further west to Walnut.
In 1880 he married to Miss Anna Hansen, who with seven children survives the death of her husband. The children are Mrs. Henry Jacobs, August, Vena, Anna, Otto, Hugo and Edna, besides he has one brother Detlef and three sisters, Mrs. Jens Hansen, Mrs. Julius Beyer and Mrs. August Kohlschen, in this country, all of whom live in this vicinity and were present during his fatal sickness and death.
Mr. Paasch has been in poor health for several years past with a serious heart trouble and a few weeks ago was taken with a severe attack of pneumonia which with the former trouble made life very uncertain and when death came it was not unlooked for, although there were unfulfilled hopes that he might recover.
Funeral services were held at the German church Monday at one o'clock p.m. by Rev. Leonhard, who in a few short words paid a glowing tribute to the memory of the dead husband and father. The services at the cemetery were conducted by the Workman lodge, assisted by the Germania Verein, he being a member of both organizations. Rev. Rambo of the Methodist church conducting the service.
Mr. Paasch will long be remembered as one of the solid, substantial farmers of this community and wherever he was known he was honored and respected for his sterling worth as a man and a citizen.
