Clinton Russell "Sid" James (1923 - 2013)

SCIO - Clinton Russell "Sid" James, 89, went to be with his creator, family and friends in Heaven on Monday (April 22, 2013).

Born June 8, 1923, in Short Tract, he was a son of Guy and Maude Kelly James. When Clint was 6 months old, the family moved to Scio, where he lived until his death. On March 30, 1958, he married Dortha Faston Barry.

A graduate of Scio Central School, he would, at age 59, earn an associate degree in electronics from the Wellsville campus of Alfred State College.

After high school, Clinton joined the U.S. Army and earned the rank of sergeant while serving in the European Theater during World War II.

Returning from the war, he worked various jobs in the area oil fields, then began a long career at Capital Plastics in Wellsville.

After earning his degree, he then worked in the electronics department at the Wellsville campus of Alfred State College and retired after more than 20 years of service.

Clinton was active in the American Legion, serving as the Scio post and Allegany County commander; and the 40&8, an honor organization of veterans. A former assessor for the town of Scio, he also served for many years on the Allegany County Republican Committee and was a licensed amateur radio operator.

He was a member of the Scio United Methodist Church, and for many years he attended the Wellsville First United Methodist Church.
Well after the age of 50, running became his passion, and he completed many local races, as well as the New York State and National Senior Games, earning many trophies for winning his age group.

Surviving are his wife, Dortha; three sons, Patrick (Michele) Barry, Jeffrey (Kim) James and Martin (Mary) James; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Terrence Barry; two brothers, Richard and Robert James; and two sisters, Marjorie Hall and Marilyn James.

Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Scio.

Donations may be made to the Wellsville First United Methodist Church; Scio United Methodist Church; or the Alfred State Track and Field Team, c/o Gary Moore.
