James was born October 16, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., to Frank and Ann (Rudge) Mauer. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Vickers Company in 1973 after 18 years, as the Building Superintendent.
James was united in marriage to Doris (Shaul) on July 17, 1948 and together moved from Omaha in 1971 to a farm in rural Crescent, Iowa, and in 1987 to Council Bluffs.
He was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Ann Mauer; son, Thomas A. Mauer in 2001.
James is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Doris Mauer, of Council Bluffs; son, James W. Mauer II (Donna), of Omaha; daughters, Sharon Freuck (Ed), Carolyn Mauer, all of Underwood, Iowa, Kathy Killpack (Jeff), of Neola, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.
