Verna M. Weiland, age 85, of Mound, died Friday, June 29, 2007 at her home.

She was born November 30, 1921 in St. Bonifacius, the daughter of Andrew A. and Mary C. (Thurk) Ebert. Verna was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius.

She married Lawrence J. Weiland on May 15, 1945 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius.

A loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma, Verna enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, cooking and playing bingo. One of her favorite dishes to make was Southern fried chicken. She was a very hard worker at whatever she did.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; daughters, Carol Ann Weiland and Diane Bernice Weiland; parents, Andrew and Mary Ebert; sister, Leonore Walter; and brother, Donald Ebert.

She is survived by her loving family: children and spouses, Lawrence and Judy Weiland of Tucson, Arizona, Rose and Jim Jessen of Mound, Bill and Meredith Weiland of Watertown, Joe Weiland of Mound, and Laurie and Michael Turner of St. Bonifacius; grandchildren, Michelle Melichar, Tim Jessen, Chad and Agnessa Weiland, Jennifer and Brandon White, Jeremy Jessen, Eric Jessen, Lisa and Joe Gesinger, Amy Weiland and fiancé John Meyer, Sara Weiland, Ryan Weiland, Mercedes Priebe, Akasha Priebe, and Faith Turner; and great-grandchildren, Braeden White and Elizabeth Gesinger.

Verna is further survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and William Volkenant of Maple Plain, Elaine Stelten of Chaska, and Muriel and Clarence Wickenhauser of Cologne; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Ruth Ebert of Watertown; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Gilbert Walter of Cologne, Kathy Ebert of Delano, Bernice Weiland of St. Bonifacius, Betty Weiland of Coos Bay, Oregon, and Inez King of Delano; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, July 5 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius with the Reverends Joseph Gallatin and Stan Mader as celebrants of the Mass.

Interment was at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Tim Jessen, Chad Weiland, Jeremy Jessen, Eric Jessen, Ryan Weiland, Brandon White, Joe Gesinger, and Richard "Dick" Weiland.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
