Gerald Thomas Rensch, 82, Makoti, died Friday, June 7, 2013 in a Minot hospital.

Gerald was born on November 17, 1930 in Makoti, ND the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Wolf) Rensch. He was raised in Makoti and graduated from Makoti High School in 1949.

He then attended St. Thomas University in Minnesota until he was drafted into the US Army on January 17, 1952. Following basic training in Illinois, Jerry was united in marriage to Vivian "Tucky" Lampert on May 26, 1952 in Makoti. They made their home in Texas while he served his country. Following his honorable discharge on January 16, 1954, they returned to Makoti and took over the management of Rensch Garage; a family business started by his father in 1917. He continued to own and operate Rensch Garage until 1995 when he retired and turned it over to his son, Brian. Jerry held the contract to sell Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Buick for 38 years.

Following his retirement he spent his winters in Mesa, Arizona. Following Vivian's death on June 25, 2004, Jerry continued to make Makoti his home. He loved to golf and spent many happy hours on golf courses in North Dakota and Arizona with his family and friends and recorded five holes-in-one throughout his life. He also enjoyed hunting, farming and caring for his house, yard and trees.

He cherished spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and had many friends that were an important part of his life. Jerry was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the William Hanson American Legion Post and the ND Implement Dealers Association. He volunteered on the Ryder/Makoti Ambulance and Fire Department and served on the Makoti City Council for several years. May God bless the memory of Gerald Thomas Rensch.

Family: Jerry is survived by: his daughters, Joan Stafslien (Wes Sherven) of Makoti, Cathy Klabunde (Bruce) of Garrison, Carole Lee (Kendell Merritt) of Minot and Marcia Steffen (Donn) of Hazen; son, Thomas of Mandan; daughter-in-law, Melissa Rensch of Makoti; grandchildren, Tyler (Shannon), Justin (Crissy) and Brooks Stafslien (Heidi) and Courtney Mills (Jody); Jerod (Lisa), Jenna and Thomas Klabunde; Nick (Tiffani), Brandon and Adam Lee (Kelcey); Jessica, Logan and Hunter Steffen; and Josie, Jack and Sam Rensch; brothers, Harold (Jeannie) of Garrison and Donald of Layton, Utah; sister, Delores Cumings of Loveland, Colo.; sister-in-law, Mary Monette of Denver; brother-in-law, Ron Lampert of Bismarck; special friend, Aldine Grinde of Gold Canyon, AZ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant daughter, Angela; son, Brian and brother, Eugene.

Funeral: Monday, June 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bridget Catholic Church, Parshall.

Rosary: Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Makoti.

Visitation: Sunday from noon - 5:00 p.m. in Langhans Funeral Home, Parshall.

Interment: St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery, Makoti.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be designated to the organization of the donor's choice.
