Anthropologist. He was a Tlingit Indian from Alaska who worked as an anthropologist among his own people. He was a past Grand President of the Alaska Native Brotherhood. His Tlingit name was Stoowukháa, "the Astute One." Shotridge worked with anthropologists Frank Speck, Edward Sapir, and Franz Boas on Tlingit music and language and served for almost two decades as the Assistant Curator at the Columbia University Museum in New York City, one of the first Native Americans to hold such a position.
