"Professor Wilberding called by death - Prominent music teacher passes away after nine weeks' illness - Professor Herman Wilberding died at 5:05 o'clock yesterday afternoon at a local hospital after an illness of nine weeks. Mr. Wilberding was 63 years old.
He was born in Holdorf, Germany, April 5, 1857 and came to America when he was 17 years old. He was married to Miss Mary Heintz in Mt. Healthy, O. in 1879. Professor Wilberding taught music in Mt. Healthy for four years and came to Dubuque in 1881. For 33 years he taught at St. Mary's school.
Surviving Professor Wilberding are nine children: Rev H.A. Wilberding of Bell Plaine, Ia., Joseph M.,Wibaux, Mont., Frank of Dubuque, William, LaCrosse, Ray, Dubuque, Mrs. Phil Georgen, Minneapolis and Celia and Matilda at home, and Mrs. Harold Heaney of Milwaukee. All were at his bedside when he passed away. Five brothers and one sister also survive: Ben, Charles and Joseph of Cincinnati, Anton, Remsen, Ia., and Henry of Dubuque, and Mrs, Regina Steinhauer, Indianapolis.
Mr. Wilberding was prominent in Catholic societies, being secretary of the R.C.M.P.S. of Iowa, secretary of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's church, and secretary of the Cathoilc Teachers of America.
The funeral will be held Wednesday morning from the home, 1465 Jackson street, to St. Mary's Church at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends are asked to omit flowers."
