Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. at the First Reformed Church, Fostoria with the Revs. Ervin Voogd and Dale Hodges officiating.

Casket bearers; Brian Gilman, Brady Weerheim, Mandy Weerheim, Jill Gilman, Ashley Stone and Brandon Stone.

Burial will be at First Reformed Cemetery, rural Fostoria, with the Warner Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of arrangements.

John Reinder Dirksen, son of Reinder and Reka (Schoorman) Dirksen, was born July 7, 1913, in Waterford Township, Clay County. His childhood years were spent in that area, where he received his early education in country schools.

He married Bena Kupier of February 16, 1940, and the early years of their marriage were spent on a farm near Everly. During that time, he was a member of the First Reformed Church. In 1953, the couple moved to Ostrander, Minnesota, where he continued farming. While in that community, he was a member of the Greenleafton Reformed Church. In 1966, he returned to Spencer.

He married Gertrude Vreeman on June 8, 1968, in Rochester, Minnesota. Throughout their marriage, they made their home in Spencer. For 11 years, John drove a bus for the Spencer schools. He later drove for the RTA, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Dirksen was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his second wife, and one brother.

He is survived by one son, Paul Dirksen and his wife, Marlene of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandchildren; one brother, Edward Dirksen of Spencer; and one sister, Louise Hagemeyer of Clara City, Minnesota.
