SALT LAKE CITY -- Elaine Papenfuss Jaten, 77, died here on July 19, 2003. Elaine was born on Oct. 5, 1925, in Corinne, UT, the daughter of Curt and Catherine Willes Papenfuss. In 1935 the family moved to St. Ignatius, where she graduated from high school. After high school Elaine worked at various jobs until the early 1950s, when she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She then attended and graduated from Brigham Young Univ. She taught at Church College of Hawaii and Granite School District in Salt Lake City before coming to Ricks College, where she taught until marrying Howard Jaten of Spokane in 1970. She again taught at Ricks College before retiring. Elaine finished her master's degree at BYU. Preceding her in death were two brothers, John and Robert. Elaine is survived by her husband; five children, Allen (Tucson, AZ), Kenneth (Richland, WA), Ann Sibbett (San Bernardino, CA), Karen Taylor (Sandy, UT), and Sandy Huish (San Juan Capistrano, CA); a sister, Karma Cook (St. Ignatius); and three brothers, Bruce Papenfuss (St. Ignatius), Kenneth (Newdale, ID), and Joseph (Salt Lake City). A funeral was held on July 22 in Rexburg. A graveside service and interment took place on July 23 at the Pleasant View Cemetery in St. Ignatius.
