Karl L. Seliger, 87, of Orange City passed away Monday, March 1, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Karl LeRoy Seliger was born Sept. 1, 1894, at Cedar Falls, the son of Wilhelm Seliger and Julia Pitsch Seliger. He attended school in Sigourney, Iowa State University in Ames, and Armour Institute of Technology in Chicago, Ill., where he graduated with a degree in civil engineering.
On Oct. 28, 1928, Mr. Seliger married Marjorie Etter at Lake Geneva, Wis. They came to Orange City in January of 1930, where he became the Sioux County Engineer, a position he held until his retirement in 1962.
Mrs. Seliger passed away Nov. 18, 1972.
In November of 1978, Karl became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, and in January of 1982, he transferred to the Heritage House Nursing Home of Orange City.
Mr. Seliger has been an elder in the American Reformed Church of Orange City, president of the Orange City School Board, a trustee of the Orange City Municipal Hospital, a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, a charter member of the Orange City Lions Club, and a member of the Rambler Club.
Survivors include two sons, William, of Fort Salonga, N.Y.; and Robert, of Des Moines; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Seliger was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3, at the American Reformed Church with the Rev. Dr. Calvin Rynbrandt officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
