She was born in Cass County, Mich., July 17, 1924, to George and Maude Straub.
A 1942 graduate of Elkhart High School, she married Richard G. Shelley June 24, 1945 at Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Robert) Hocevar of White Pigeon, Mich., and Carolyn (Lynn) Shelley of Elkhart; niece Marianne (Tom) Lilly; nephew Nelson Schlosser; sister-in-law Linda Shelley; nephews Dirk and Ward Shelley; niece Amy Shelley; and foreign exchange daughter Monika Stierli-Baumberger.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and sister Anne Schlosser.
Patricia worked at The Elkhart Truth as a reporter and proofreader for 10 years following high school graduation. She was a homemaker until she began a second career with the Osolo Township Assessor's office. She retired after 20 years.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bristol. She belonged to Delta Theta Tau sorority for 60 years. She was a 50-year member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
She enjoyed working with family records and genealogy. She traveled to England and Scotland searching out family connections. Making a difference in the lives of others through laughter and hospitality meant the world to Pat.
