He was born in Pommern (then part of Germany) and was with his parents when they entered the United States through the New York harbor. His father, Carl Louis Wegner, and his mother, Karoline Marie Winkel, moved to Mount Prairie, WI, where they lived on a rented farm for 1 year. On October 29, 1874, they moved to the North Morristown area in Rice County, MN. In 1883 Albert's parents purchased 160 acres there; in the following year they donated 2 acres to the Evangelical Lutheran Church for the Lutheran school, parsonage and teacher age. Later the farm was divided between Albert and his younger brother, Frank. Albert Wegner married Augusta Saack on November 16, 1893. Augusta had come to the United States with her parents, Fred and Amelia (Dahlke) Saack, in 1890 via the port of Baltimore, MD; they moved to Rice County to what is known as the Heyer farm, adjacent to Concordia Cemetery. Albert and Augusta had a family of 8 children and were married 54 years. About 1913 Albert was elected to the board of County Commissioners; he remained on the board for 8 years, during which time he relinquished most of the farm work to son, Henry. Later in life, Albert and Augusta moved to Faribault where they purchased the Nutting house on West Division Street. They both died in 1948, survived by all 8 of their children.
