Johann Michael Göbel, a farmer in Assamstadt, Baden, of what is now (2019) Germany, was born on 10 September 1786 and died on 20 January 1850. On 7 November 1808 he married Dorothea Fohmann, who was also from Assamstadt, where she was born on 30 December 1788. Her parents were Johann Michael Fohmann (aka Vohmann) and Anna Maria Ringeisen. Johann Michael Göbel and Dorothea Fohmann had the following children:
Anna Maria Göbel, born 23 October 1808 and died 13 March 1894 in Assamstadt Germany.
Juliana E Göbel, born 1 April 1812 and died 19 March 1885 in Marion Iowa.
Johannes Antonius Göbel, born 24 June 1814 and died 14 May 1887 in St. Nazianz Wisconsin.
Michael Ludwig Göbel, born 27 February 1817 and died 4 July 1876 in Perry, Wisconsin.
Ludwina Göbel, born 27 February 1819 and died 20 March 1891 in Perry, Wisconsin.
Augustin Göbel, born 27 August 1822 and died 23 November 1824 in Assamstadt, Germany.
Augustin Göbel, born 29 January 1825 and died 11 August 1909 in Perry, Wisconsin.

After the death of her husband, Johann in January of 1850, she found her way to Dane County, WI to live near family. She is buried in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Dane County, WI.

Juliana Göbel married Christian Heller, who died in Baden, but she emigrated to North American along with her children; Kreszentia, Peter, Joseph, Augustin, and Maria; a daughter named Maria Apollonia died at the age of 4 in Assamstadt, Baden, Germany.

When she was born, the principality of which Assamstadt was a part was the "Margravate of Baden." Dorothea died on 3 January 1870, aged 81 years.
