FIND RECLUSE DEAD IN BED
----------
George Hanson, 57, Arcola, Had Been Dead for Several Days
ARCOLA, April 11 — George Hansen, a bachelor 57 years of age and a resident of Arcola all of his life, was found dead in bed Tuesday noon. Just when he died nor the exact cause is not known but from the condition of his body he had been dead for days.
Mr. Hansen lived alone in his cottage on South Walnut street. His neighbors had not seen him for several days. On Tuesday J. C. Ludolph began inquiring about him and finding no one knew just where he was, went to his home. Not being able to obtain a response to his knock he looked into the windows and found him lying on the bed. The body was in bed partially dressed with shoes and stockings off and the covers thrown over his shoulders. His body was black and in an advanced state of decomposition.
At the inquest a paper carrier, Pete Atkinson, said he had delivered papers to Mr. Hansen's door and that they were received by him. The last one received in person was on March 28. After that date when the boy took the papers there, he found no one home and left them between the screen and door. The verdict was death from natural causes, probably from an attack of the heart and that death occurred several days prior to the finding of the body on Tuesday.
Owned Farm
Mr. Hansen was born in Arcola April 19, 1872, and had lived all his life in Arcola. He owned the cottage in which he made his home and also a good farm near Arcola. He made his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Hansen, until 1909 since which time he has lived alone.
He is survived by three half brothers, August Knoop, Arcola; Harry Knoop, of Garfield, Wash.; and two half sisters, Mrs. Anna Rahn, of Camargo and Mrs. Catherine Laughlin of Tuscola. The funeral services were conducted at the grave in the Arcola cemetery Thursday morning with Rev. D. F. Kniker officiating. The members of the Arcola Order of Odd Fellows of which the deceased was a member officiated at the services.
