Kathleen Lenore Bridget Fitzgerald Schwalbe, age 84, a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, was called by God to enter eternal life on Saturday morning, Jan. 6, 2011, at Shady Lane Nursing Care center.
Kathleen was born to the late Simon and Nellie (Barnes) Fitzgerald on Aug. 11, 1926, in Manitowoc. She graduated from Valders High School, and on Sept. 27, 1962, she married Rene W. Schwalbe in Osman. Rene preceded Kathleen in death on Dec. 10, 1991. After graduation Kathleen worked at the Mirro Aluminum Company until her marriage, and the Manitowoc Public School District as a pre-school home visitor from 1974 until her retirement in 1990. Through many years she was involved with various committees and groups at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law: Mary Ellen and Ed West, LaCrosse, Rosanne and Frank Fidler, Woodbury Minn., Amy Hall and fiancé, Paul Cornette, Casco, and Sarah and Dan Schafer, Wausau; two sons and two daughter-in-law: Jess and Ann Schwalbe, Manitowoc, and Jon and Karen Schwalbe, North St. Paul, Minn.; fourteen grandchildren: Emily West, Devin West, Sheridan West, Liam West, Ellen Fidler, Marie Fidler, Kevin Fidler, Riley Hall, Brogan Hall, Jonathan Schafer, Hannah Schafer, Patrick Schwalbe, Jacob Schwalbe, and Andrew Schwalbe; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Warren and Rita Fitzgerald, Ariz. And Maxine Fitzgerald, Manitowoc; two brothers-in-law: Ralph Herzog, Osman, and Wally Sievert, Manitowoc. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Kathleen was also preceded in death by one son: Jeffrey Schwalbe; two brothers and one sister-in-aw: John and Jenny Fitzgerald, and Norbert Fitzgerald; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Alice and Leo Kunz, and Rosie Herzog, and one sister-in-law: Pat Seivert.
Funeral services for Kathleen will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. Mass of Christian Burial will be lead by the Rev. Paul Paider, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m., led by the Rev. Paul Paider. Visitation will continue Friday morning at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek, from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Memorials would be appreciated to St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Francis Creek, or Roncalli High School in Kathleen’s name.
Kathleen was a loving and caring person who loved spending time with her family and sharing friendships with many. We will miss her bright Irish eyes and sweet smile. Although she is no longer with us, she will live in our hearts forever.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Yetter and staff as well as the 2nd floor staff at shady Lane for their care and compassion shown towards Kathleen and her family. The family would also like to thank her St. Anne’s “Card Club” with whom she spent many hours of enjoyment.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
