Mr. Robert Ray (Bob) Allen, 76, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the High Point Regional Hospital.
A resident of this area for all of his life, Bob was born on June 18, 1936 in High Point to the late Clara Ida Brown and Theodore Roosevelt Allen. Bob married the former Betty Herndon on April 5, 1959 and enjoyed over 54 years of marriage. He was a businessman and well –known by many. He and his wife founded Timeless Bedding Inc., a mattress company that was located in High Point and Thomasville. Bob had a love for the game of golf and was a former president of the Colonial Country Club in Trinity. As a very active member of the community, Bob was also a charter member of the Archdale Jaycees and a member of the Buck Club in Thomasville. In his later years, he and his wife retired to High Rock Lake, where they enjoyed many happy years together. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Lee Allen and a brother, Tommy Allen.
Surviving is his wife, Betty Herndon Allen of the home; four children, Sherrie Williams and her husband Steve of Lexington, Ginger Bowman and her husband Jim of Sophia, Mike Allen of California, and Cindy Allen of California; and his sister, Jane James and her husband Raleigh of Richmond, Va. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michael John Petty, Robert Dean Petty, Paul Christian Anhalt, Nicole Jean Anhalt, Stevie Rae Williams, Lindsey Bowman Cooper, Robby Bowman, Brett Bowman, and Amber Bull; and six great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service, 120 Trindale Rd, Archdale with his brother-in-law, Rev. Raleigh James officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
