ROBERTSON WINSTON-SALEM ~ M. Stewart Robertson, Jr. Feb. 11, 1914 ~ June 15, 2011 M. Stewart Robertson, Jr., 97, died Wednesday, June 15 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Raleigh, N.C. on February 11, 1914 to Elsie Wills Camden of Buckingham County, Virginia and Stewart Robertson, Sr. of Prince Edward Island, Canada. A native of Raleigh, Mr. Robertson attended Hugh Morson High School and later graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1934 with a B.S. in Commerce. Subsequently, he worked for Martindale-Hubbell in New York City until early 1942 when he enlisted in the Navy. After graduating from the Naval Officers Indoctrination School and the Air Combat Intelligence School at Quonset Point, Rhode Island, he served most of World War II in the Pacific as an air intelligence officer for Fighting Squadron Eight aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Bunker Hill. After the war, he worked as a stockbroker with Reynolds Securities which later merged with Dean Witter. He retired from Dean Witter Reynolds in 1979. Mr. Robertson loved his family, friends, sailing, and bridge. He was gifted with words and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. In 1978, he wrote a book entitled "My Friend Marshall" about former friend and Winston-Salem mayor, Marshall Kurfees. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anne R. Pond and husband, Nathan Jones Pond; brotherm Col. Arthur N. B. Robertson and wifem Lyn; sister-in-law, Lynda T. Roberts; and nephews: Nick Pond, Jr. and Christopher Olds Pond. Surviving are his wife Edna; son, Malcolm S. Robertson III; daughter-in-law, Heather Brown Robertson; and granddaughter, Lara Camden Robertson. He is also survived by nephew, Allan T. Pond and wife, Lynn; and nieces: Anne McCauley and husband, Joe, Kathy Pittman and husband, Bryan, Jennifer Neis and husband, Bill and Lucinda Behrendt. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Salem Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Street. There will be a Graveside Service at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 2 p.m.
