Donald R. Otting, 79, of Cascade, Iowa, died Monday July 1, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Don was born March 8, 1934 in Cascade, Iowa, Son of Joseph and Anna (Soppe) Otting. He is a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School in Cascade, Iowa. On April 28, 1956 he was united in marriage to Jean Gile at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. Don was employed with the Dubuque County Highway Department. He is an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

In his day, Don was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors with his family, walking and hiking in the Round Hollow and Whitewater areas.

He was a member of St. Matthias Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society, and the Cascade American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lisa Otting on July 7, 1984; two brothers, Wilbur (Bill) and James Otting; One sister, Rosemary Otting; Brother-in-Law Cliff Woerdehoff ; Sister-in-Law Madonna (Otting) Tucker.

Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa, where full military honors will be presented by the Cascade American Legion.
