Services held for Earl Henschen, 78
Funeral services for Earl H. Henschen, 78, were held Tuesday, April 1, at 2 p.m. from the Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. Leroy E. Franz officiating. He was assisted in the services by the Garner Veterans' Ceremonial Unit (Made up of members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars).
The Rev. Franz used as his text Luke 2:29-30, and the mediation was entitled, "Depart in Peace". Comfort in music supplied by duet of Mrs. Dale Greiman; using the hymns, How Great Thou Art," and, "Beyond the Sunset." The organist was Karen Greiman. Pallbearers were; Douglas Upmeyer, Ronald Upmeyer, John Borchers, Arto Woiwood, Glen Juhl, and Larry Meckstroth. The Bohn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He was laid to rest in Concord cemetery. At the time of his death he had reached the age of 78 years, five months, and nine days,
He died at his home on Friday afternoon, March 28th, after he had been operating a snow blower.
He was born at Garner October 19, 1896, the son of Henry and Meta (Gorth) Henschen.
He attended the public schools here. As a young man he served in the United States Navy during World War I.
He returned home and was engaged for many years as a self-rmployed contractor. During World War II he spent a period of time in Nebraska working in a defense plant. More recently he served 20 years as custodian of the Hancock County Courthouse until his retirement in the 1960's.
On July 31, 1941, he was united in marriage to Mabel Borchers of Garner.
He was an active member of the Zion United Church of Christ. He was a member of the American Legion and a charter member of the "We Sixties" club. For many years, 1945-1970, he was the recorder of the daily weather conditions in the Garner vicinity.------------
