Carl Herbert Leighty, 76, of Brown Street, Everson, went to be with the Lord at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at his residence. Carl was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Ruffsdale, a son of the late Walter and Helen Weisel Leighty. He married the former Henrietta J. Bisel on June 30, 1965. Carl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a retired shot blaster and painter at R.E. Uptegraff Manufacturing in Scottdale with 32 years of service, and was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Reformed Church in Alverton. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching football and wrestling on TV, and years ago time spent fishing and camping at Scottyland Campground. A veteran of the Korean conflict, Carl served as a corporal and truck driver in the U.S. Marine Corps. He graduated from East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1947. "Words cannot express the love and kindness Carl has shown throughout his lifetime!" Carl will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 40 years, Henrietta J. Bisel Leighty; his three daughters, Susan Piper and husband, Rick, of Scottdale, Sandy Lash and husband, Dan, of Scottdale, and Nancy Garsteck and husband, Bruce, of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Jason Shean, Stephanie Babick, Jennifer Long, Tabitha Shean, Katherine Lash, Mallory Garsteck and Angela Garsteck; three great-grandchildren, Amy Babick, Dannelle Shean and Chad Babick Jr.; a sister, Velma J. Ingelido, of Ruffsdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Leighty; and a sister, Ruth Ann Leighty. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300/e-mail: [email protected]; GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W079 degrees 35.278). Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Cheryl Barron and Warren Lash co-officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Zion Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post #446. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carl's memory may be directed to the family. Love Lasts Forever!
