From her obituary in the Waukesha Freeman, July 3, 2002:

WABASHA, Minn. - Mary Jane Cahill passed into eternal life Monday, July 1, 2002, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Cahill was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Clinton, Iowa, to Leon and Cantonia Hull. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1938 and was a 1942 graduate of Marquette University with a degree in nursing.

Mrs. Cahill practiced as a registered nurse primarily in Milwaukee-area hospitals before she retired. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy and focus of her life, and she enjoyed entertaining them at her home on Lake Sinissippi, and later at her home in Wabasha, where she moved with her husband in 1996. Her family will miss her sure-sighted guidance and quiet strength. She was a model for her family to the end, fighting her final illness for one year with dignity and without complaint.

Mrs. Cahill was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome "Jerry" Cahill, and her sister, Evelyn Swanson. She is survived by her six children, Kathleen (Owen) Boehm, Leon (Sue) Cahill, Jerianne (Jon) Swierzewski, Brian (Cyndi) Cahill, Terry (Maura) Cahill and Peter (Jane) Cahill; her sister Ruth Kilkenny; her 19 grandchildren, Daisy (Arndt) Braaten, Sara (Patrick) Broaders, Anne Boehm, Brigid (Michael Rozalski) Cahill, Alyssa (Steven) Kuehn, Daniel Cahill, Michael, David and Thomas Swierzewski, Bryan (Kathryn), Melissa and Kristin Cahill, Kate, Aileen and Thomas Cahill and Sean, Caitlin, Daniel and Ashlyn Cahill. She is also survived by her six great-grandchildren, Finn, Kathleen, Conor, Jack, Rebecca and Emily.

Mrs. Cahill’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Hematology-Oncology Group at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and the Northwest Hospice Home Care Group in Eau Claire for their tremendous help and support over the last year. The kindness and professionalism of all was deeply appreciated by Mrs. Cahill and her family.

Visitation will be held between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Murray Community Funeral Home in Horicon. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Juneau; the Rev. Michael Wild will officiate. Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Juneau.

The Murray Community Funeral Home in Horicon, (920) 485-2217, is serving the family.
