Joseph Edward Wiederhold

MCPHERSON

Former Madison resident Joseph Edward Wiederhold, 94, of McPherson died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Infinia care center in McPherson.

Mr. Wiederhold farmed and also was a Class A welder for the National Cooperative Refinery Association at McPherson before he retired in July 1973. He previously worked for Globe Refinery, where he started in February 1937. He moved from Madison to McPherson in 1937.

Joseph Edward Wiederhold, the son of Joseph and Rose Scheve Wiederhold, was born July 1, 1908, in rural Madison. He graduated from the Maydale Community Parochial School near Olpe.

He married Bernadine Mary Miller on March 30, 1937, at Olpe. She died July 16, 1978. He married Eileen Freed on Dec. 26, 1980, at Mayetta. She died Dec. 14, 2002.

Mr. Wiederhold was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 5222, both in McPherson. He also was a member of Elk Lodge 502 in McPherson.

He is survived by three daughters, Jodine Broscovak of Denver, Janice Sitts of Sedona, Ariz., and Judy Gaggero of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two stepsons, Steven Freed of Holton and Alfred Freed of Topeka; a sister, Mary Lenninger of Olpe; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, John Wiederhold and Charles Wiederhold; and four sisters, Adelaid Wiederhold, Louise Gillespie, Theresa Wiederhold and Margaret Hensley, died earlier.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church at McPherson; the Rev. Paul Oborny will officiate. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home in McPherson, where the rosary will be recited at 5:10 p.m.
