Barbara was the sixth of eight children {four daughters & four sons} born to Mathias & Mary Magdelena (Simonis) Schindler.
NOTE: Her father died 9 August 1862 from injuries at Camp Clear Creek (near Corinth, Mississippi), while serving with Company "G" of the Fourth Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War.
On 12 January 1875, Barbara married John Peter Heinen at Saint Joseph, MN; she was age 22, he was 23.
