Heather Jean McGaughey, age 22, beloved daughter and professional actress, went to sing with the angels in heaven on Saturday, July 16, 2005, in Farmington, as a result of a car accident. Heather was a rising star, most recently employed by Sandstone Productions in leading roles. At the invitation of a major casting agency, she was to travel to New York in September to pursue her career.
Heather was born Aug. 20, 1982, in Conroe, Texas. She was a National Merit Recognized Scholar graduating Summa Cum Laude from Conroe High School, class of 2000, and a Class Orator at graduation. Utilizing both theater and academic scholarships, she was a 2004 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, earning a bachelor of fine arts degree in theater and dance.
She was a naturally gifted performer beginning her career in classical ballet at the age of 6 and progressing to principal roles in "The Nutcracker." Heather became involved with drama in high school, performing in plays and competing in UIL competitions. At Southwestern University, Heather had leading roles in shows ranging from "Cabaret" to "Dames at Sea." In addition, she earned a grant in 2002-2003 from the King Creativity Fund for her work in costuming.
A person courageous enough to follow her dreams and passion for performance, she interned on Broadway and began her career working in regional theater starting in Amana, Iowa, at the "Old Creamery Theatre." In the spring of 2005, Heather and the company toured Iowa performing children's theater in public schools.
This summer Heather was performing with Sandstone Productions in Farmington, and on the night of her death, she had received a standing ovation as Nellie in "South Pacific."
Gracious and humble in accepting applause and accolades, Heather strove both to pursue excellence in her art and to elevate those around her. With her generous spirit shining through, she radiated life and was a model of inner and outer beauty.
Heather leaves her adoring family and many friends behind.

She is survived by her loving parents, W. Douglas and Dr. Carol McGaughey of League City; her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Jordan Mendez of Dallas, Texas; her maternal grandmother, Patricia Loeffler of Clearwater, Fla.; paternal grandfather, William R. McGaughey of Decatur, Ill.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the United States.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Drive in Friendswood, Texas.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Friendswood United Methodist Church, 204 W. Edgewood Drive in Friendswood. A reception at the church will follow burial at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.
