Funeral Rites Conducted in St. Patrick's Church Monday Morning

Final rites for Mrs. Agnes Hoying, aged eighty five years and six months, widow of Mr. Charles Hoying, who died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julius Westerheid of St. Patrick's, after a brief illness, were held in St. Patrick's church Tuesday at ten A.M.

Mrs. Hoying was ill only five days and was bedfast during that time. Her death occurred at 8:45 p.m. last Friday, and was attributed to complications.

A lifelong resident of Minster and the surrounding community, she was born here on January 21, 1857, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Drees. She attended the schools of this community and in 1882 was married to Mr. Hoying who preceded her in death eight years later, in 1890.

Four children were born to their union, thee of them are living. They are, Mrs. Catherine Stang of Fort Loramie, Mrs. Bernadine Westerheide of St. Patrick's and Sister Mary Rosamunda of Minster. A son, John, died at the age of 19. 21 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren are left.

Louis Drees, a former mayor of Minster and Frank, Joseph and Anthony Drees, all residing in Texas, are brothers. A sister, Sister Mary Victoria, is stationed at the Maria Stein Convent.

A lifelong Catholic, Mrs. Hoying received the last sacrament or the Church prior to her passing. She was a member of the Sorrowful Mother's Society of St. Patrick's Parish (those meetings sound like they'd be a lot of fun).

Mrs. Hoying resided on the farm where her death occurred for nearly 60 years, since the time of her marriage.

Reverend Urban Stang, nephew of the deceased, was celebrant of the solemn requiem mass Tuesday morning. Assisting him were the Reverend Urban Hoying as Deacon and the Reverend Joseph Hoying as subdeacon. Cletus Stang was the master of ceremonies.

The pallbearers were Sgt. Alfred J. Weterheide, Maurice Westerheide, John Weterheide, Private Bernard Stang and Carl and Joseph Stang.
