Biography
Virginia C. Sprehe was born in Carlyle, Illinois on March 14, 1925, a daughter of Anthony and Clara (Krebs) Huels. She married Albert H. Sprehe at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle on December 29, 1948, and he preceded her in death on April 12, 1974.

Mrs. Sprehe was a member of the Catholic faith. She worked at Moran Shoe Factory in Carlyle, and also owned and operated a grocery store in Hoffman with her husband. Mrs. Sprehe enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing bingo and flower gardening.

Virginia C. Sprehe entered into rest on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at the Friendship House in Centralia. She was 82 years of age.

Mrs. Sprehe is survived by a daughter – Diane S. Meyer and husband Michael of Centralia, Illinois; 2 sons – Stephen Sprehe and Debby of Taylorville, Illinois and Douglas Sprehe and wife Jerri Kay of Centralia; 8 grandchildren – Tina Swartzlander and husband Dean of Bryan, Texas, Melissa Meyer of Centralia, Cherie Ilse and husband Jordan of Temple, Texas, Rob Sprehe and wife Stacy of Jacksonville, Florida, Nick Sprehe of Tampa, Florida, Emily Sprehe of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Janelle Sprehe and Mackenzie Sprehe, both of Centralia and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters – Cecilia Wiedle and husband Herman of Shattuc, Illinois and Olive Gray and husband Donald of St. Ann, Missouri; a brother – Aloys Huels and wife Kay of Carlyle and a sister-in-law – Jane Huels of Carlyle.

She was preceded in death by her parents – Anthony and Clara Huels and 2 brothers – Bernard and Robert Huels.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle, with Fr. George Mauck, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Carlyle. Friends may call at Zieren Day Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until service time.

Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Sprehe are suggested to the Friendship House Activity Fund or to VNA/TIP Hospice, and will be received at the funeral home.
