RENSSELAERVILLE — A Hilltown native turned southern belle, Mary Lou (Gifford) Weinkauf died on March 15, 2011, in Florissant, Missouri. She was 84.
Mrs. Weinkauf was born on June 17, 1926, to Charles D. Gifford and Cornelia (Tanner) Gifford of Rensselaerville.
"Before moving away to Missouri, she lived in the tiny little house that still stands at the intersection of Route 85 and Main Street, with her husband, Thomas Weinkauf, and her father, Charles Gifford, before the latter passed away, and until her husband's National Guard work had him transfer to Missouri," her nephew, Gifford Rector, wrote.
Mrs. Weinkauf is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Weinkauf; her daughter, Holly Jo Kurtz; and her, grandson Jonathan Kurtz.
She was one of five sisters, all four died before her: Dawn Marian Alban, Beryl Jean Miller, Charlotte "Jane" Rector Bennett, and Norma Ann Lois Gifford.
