Rainer Martin Sarich was 61 when he passed away peacefully with his best friend Terry Lee, wife Annette Lee and extended family by his side on Monday, January 16, 2012 at his home in Price, Utah. Rainer will be dearly missed by everyone who loved and cared for him, but never will he be forgotten!
Rainer was born on March 29, 1950 in Germany to Immigrant parents, Father Vitomir Sarich, and Mother Erika Muller Sarich. Rainer's father moved the family to Chicago, Illinois, when Rainer was a young child and he grew up in the home that his father so proudly bought for his family on the "South-side" of Chicago.
Growing up in Chicago, Rainer played soccer with the local city soccer team. He also belonged to a garage band playing his bass guitar. Cooking was one of Rainer's passions. He would say "If your going to eat and drink you might as well do it good". Rainer enjoyed good food, good friends, and a bottle of good wine; not always in that order.
Rainer's first love was his Harley Davidson. He had a Pan-head in Chicago and a Soft-tail custom in Utah. His most peaceful times were on his Harley. He would say that he felt FREE of everything, with the wind in his hair and the sun on his face.
Rainer was a very courageous man. He wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps by enlisting; he believed that this was something that he needed to do, so he enlisted into the Army for The United States of America to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He was a PFC when he enlisted on November 1, 1967 and was immediately sent to Vietnam after boot camp. His responsibility was to clear the jungle so that the soldiers could go in and fight the Vietnamese. One could only imagine what these boys saw during the Vietnam War. Rainer was given an honorable discharge on October 30, 1970 and returned to his home in Chicago.
Rainer moved to Utah in 1979 where he decided to make this his new home. He started working for Utah Power & Light at Carbon Plant on 7/11/81 and then later transferred to Hunter Plant, which is where he worked up until the day he passed away.
Rainer married Cheryl Sarich in September 1997 and later divorced.
Rainer is survived by his sister, Karin; daughter, Erika Mann; three grandsons, Jared, Jordan and Justin.
