Mielke Rites at Swanville Well Known Morrison Pioneer Dies Aged 72 years

W. P. Mielke, of Swanville, died at this home there on Monday after a lingering illness. He was born in Brandenburg, province of Germany, Sept. 1, 1861. He came to America with his parents [via Quebec, Canada] at the age of five years and settled at Waconia, Minnesota, Carver county, moving two years later to Culdrum where the father took up a homestead. Here he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Luth [on April 9, 1883 at the Lutheran Church in Round Prairie Township, Todd County, Minnesota] by the Rev. W. F. Hitzeman.

To this union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters, of whom one daughter died in infancy and two in later years preceded their father in death. They resided on a farm in Culdrum for 20 years and then moved to Swanville where he ran a farm, built up a saw and planing mill and also ran a lumber yard until about 16 years ago when he retired from active business.

On April 9, 1933 the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at St. Peters Lutheran church. Shortly after this, Mr. Mielke's health began to fail. About two months ago he had a heart attack and was confined to his bed since. He died Monday morning at 5 o'clock at the age of 72 years.

He is survived by his wife, Wilhelmina, sons, Edward, Ervin and William of Swanville, daughters, Misses Martha Mielke and Hilda Mielke of Minneapolis, 11 grandchildren and one great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted today at the home of his son, William and at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with interment in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery.
