Bette R. (Shaner) Maas, 92 years of age, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Monday, March 11, 2013. Bette was born on May 19, 1920 in Bowling Green, Ohio to the late Raymond G. and Eva E. (Summers) Shaner. She married Kenneth Luke Maas on December 23, 1937 in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2005. Bette is survived by her sons: James (Barbara), of Custar, Ohio; Douglas, of Portage, Ohio and Kent (Catherine) Maas, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; along with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, Bette was preceded in death by a daughter: Sandra Marie Maas on December 5, 1938; brothers: Ray "Bud" Shaner; Louis Shaner; Bill Shaner and two sisters: Maxine Smith-Ayer and Donna Hicks. Bette was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. She regularly defeated her sons at Scrabble even at the age of 90. Ken and Bette were accomplished ballroom dancers and often other couples would stop and watch as they danced. Bette was the second Mrs. Wood County. Bette also enjoyed taking old dolls and making them "new" and giving them away at Christmas. Visitation for Bette will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 9:00 am until the time of her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, REMEMBRANCE CHAPEL, 1460 W. Wooster Street, P.O. Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402, Tele: 419-352-2171. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Bowling Green, Ohio.
