Gladys was a member of the First Baptist Church Rayville, Daughters of the American Revolution, North LA Historical Association, the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also co-owner of Lane's drug store in Rayville. She received Who's Who of the American College and University. She graduated with a B.S. degree from Louisiana Tech University in 1945, then went to LSU graduate school and earned her M.A. degree in 1951. She taught at both Rayville High School and Riverfield Academy. She wrote the Alma Mater for both schools. She served as Sunday school teacher and Vacation Bible School Director at her church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Shelley Diamond, Sr. and Ruby Durham Diamond; and a brother Shelley Diamond, Jr.

She was survived by her husband, Lamar W. Lane, Sr. of Rayville; children, Miriam Lane Davey and her husband, Rex of Baton Rouge, Lamar W. Lane, Jr. and his wife, Heather of Rayville, Matthew W. Lane and his wife, Beverly of Taylor, AR, Andrew D. Lane and his wife, Melinda of Shreveport, David M. Lane and his wife, Lea Anne of Bossier City and Daniel D. Lane of West Monroe; two sisters, Addye Laura Diamond Kozel and her husband, Ray of Sun City, AZ and Helen Diamond of Rayville; sister-in-law, Bette Diamond of Ocean Springs, MS; and 18 grandchildren.
